How to Set Up Your V.O2 App and Create Your First Training Plan
Step-by-step guide to downloading the V.O2 app, entering your race data, and generating a personalized training plan based on the VDOT system.
Getting Started with V.O2
The V.O2 app is available on Google Play. After installation, you'll need to create an account and grant permissions for GPS syncing if you use a compatible device like Garmin or Coros. This guide walks you through the entire setup process.
Step 1: Enter Your Race Data
To calculate your VDOT score, the app needs a recent race result. Tap 'Add Race' and enter the distance (e.g., 5K, 10K, half marathon) and your finish time. The app instantly computes your VDOT number. If you don't have a race, you can run a time trial or use a recent workout.
Syncing with GPS Devices
Go to Settings > Connect Devices and select your brand (Garmin, Coros, etc.). Follow the on-screen authorization steps. Once synced, the app will automatically import new activities and update your VDOT after races.
Step 2: Generate Your Training Plan
Navigate to the 'Plans' tab. Choose your goal race distance and target date. The app creates a daily schedule with specific workouts: easy runs, strides, tempo runs, intervals, and long runs. Each workout includes target paces based on your current VDOT.
Customizing Your Plan
You can adjust the number of running days per week, preferred long run day, and workout types. The app also offers rest days and cross-training suggestions. All changes are saved automatically.
Step 3: Track Your Progress
After each run, sync your device. The app logs your actual paces and compares them to targets. Over time, you'll see your VDOT improve as you race. Use the 'History' tab to review trends and adjust your plan as needed.
By following these steps, you'll harness the power of the VDOT system to run smarter and faster.
